Top 10 of Indiana’s Safest Cities

Jasper In Top 10 of Indiana’s Safest Cities

July 12, 2017  (Jasper, Indiana) – Jasper earned distinction in the Top 10 of Indiana’s Safest Cities as determined by SafeWise, a home security and safety advice company. The results of the survey indicate highest-ranked cities have good partnerships between citizens and law enforcement. This relationship positively impacts the reduced occurrence of both violent crimes and property crimes.

Jasper Police Chief, Michael Bennett, said, “This ranking shows a collaborative effort between the Jasper Police Department and the community they serve which inspires our officers to do the best job they can in keeping our community safe.”

Mayor Terry Seitz echoed Chief Bennett.  “The Jasper Police Department is, first and foremost, an extension of the citizens they serve,” stated Jasper Mayor Seitz.  “We build strong community policing from the foundations of a strong community.”

To identify the safest cities in Indiana, SafeWise reviewed the 2015 FBI Crime Report statistics and population data. All cities with fewer than 4,000 residents as well as any cities that failed to submit a complete crime report to the FBI were eliminated.  The Jasper Police Department assembles vital statistics and reports then shares them with the FBI.
