Mayor's Blog
October 30, 2013
It's time for my favorite holiday - Thanksgiving - and everything I like about it: Food, fellowship and no presents! In this Mayor's blog I am listing 10 things for which I am thankful. These are not in any particular order and there are certainly many more which can't fit here today:
1. An engaged community - we've had three public information meetings in 2013 and we're averaging 120 people in attendance. When I told other mayors about this they asked what was wrong. They were astonished when I told them the meetings were about future planning of our community.
2. A dedicated City workforce - the Mayor loves to receive thank you notes and letters about City staff!
3. Veterans and Veterans Organizations - and all the places flying the American flag.
4. Faith and places of worship - who does not stand in awe of St. Joseph's Church?
5. Our park system - including the Spirit of Jasper, the Riverwalk, Central Green, the Habig Center, Sports Complex and so much more.
6. The vibrancy of Downtown Jasper - and the local store owners who make it that way.
7. Jasper Arts - exposing one to unique talent right here at home.
8. The strength of our national/international industrial base - much of it via homegrown entrepreneurs.
9. Our regional economic prowess in business, medicine and commerce - as Jasper goes, so goes Dubois County; as Dubois County goes so go our neighbors.
10. Influencers - from our Chamber of Commerce to VUJC; from churches to charities; from families to volunteers - we are a community of action delivering results.
May I suggest you write down and share 10 things for which you're thankful?
