3/15/05--JASPER BANDS LEGACY CONCERT IS APRIL 2 AT JASPER ARTS CENTER
To celebrate the tradition of Jasper High Schools successful band programs, the Jasper Community Arts Commission will present the Jasper Bands Legacy Concert on Saturday, April 2, 2005 at 8:00 pm EST at the Jasper Arts Center. The performance is part of the JCACs 2004-2005 Backstage Series.Tickets are priced at $12.50/adult, $10.00/senior citizens and $6.00/student. To charge by phone, call the JCAC box office at (812) 482-3070. Tickets may also be purchased at the door. Ample seating will be available because audience members will be seated in the auditorium, not on stage like other Backstage events.
The Jasper Band programs have received many honors and awards and a great deal of growth and prosperity over the past decade. Many students have received outstanding results in instrumental music. The Legacy concert will feature some of these musicians, graduates of Jasper High School, most of whom have gone on to pursue degrees and careers in music. Jasper Band Directors James Goodhue, John Coller and Patrick Keely will also join former students on stage.
Jasper High School graduates include:
· Don Dudine, 1963, trombone, is a former JHS band director who is currently the owner of Aqua Perfect. Dudine resides in Indianapolis.
· Carl Reckelhoff, 1971, trumpet, teaches music in the Albany-Floyd County School Corporation.
· Dr. Bernard Kemker, Jr., 1978, trumpet, did his pre-med studies at Indiana University, Bloomington and attended medical school at IU in Indianapolis. Resides in Jasper.
· Mark Messmer, 1981, trumpet, attended Purdue University and received a degree in engineering. He is employed at Messmer Mechanical and lives in Jasper.
· Jeff Burress, 1992, trumpet, is band director at Sarah Scott Middle School in Terre Haute. Graduated from Indiana State University.
· Katie Routson, 1992, flute, attended Indiana University and currently lives in Chicago.
· Libby Sermersheim, 1993, clarinet, received a masters degree in clarinet performance from University of Evansville. She resides in Indianapolis.
· Melanie Bachman, 1993, flute, earned a PhD in engineering economic systems and operations research from Stanford University. Played in the Stanford Orchestra. She currently resides in Chicago.
· Stephanie Goller-Niemeier, 1993, clarinet, is director of East Richland Middle School in Olney, IL, since 2003. Graduate of Indiana University.
· Dawn VanDerweine Peterson, 1994, French horn, received a music education degree from Butler University. She held the position of music teacher at Madison Shaw Catholic School from 1998 to 2003.
· Lisa Schwenk, 1994, French horn, is director of bands for Brown County Schools in Nashville, IN. Graduate of Indiana University with a degree in music education.
· Maria Feltner, 1996, flute, is an elementary music teacher with the South Vermillion (IN) School Corporation. Graduate of Indiana State University.
· Chris Nigg, 1996, trumpet, pursued a music education degree at the University of Evansville. Nigg currently works for American General Finance in Evansville.
· Brad Miller, 1997, clarinet, is assistant band director at Henderson (KY) North and South Middle Schools. Graduate of the University of Evansville with a music education degree.
· Brad Weil, 1998, trumpet, is a member of the The Presidents Own United States Marine Band, Washington, DC. Graduate of Indiana University with a trumpet performance degree.
· Joey Boyer, 2000, saxophone, is assistant band director at Twin Lakes High School and band director of Roosevelt Middle School in Monticello, IN. Graduate of Ball State.
· Lindsey Obermeier, 2000, is currently the dance instructor and technician for the Carmel High School Color Guard and employed by Zeta Tau Alpha Fraternity International in Indianapolis.
· Kelly Durcholz, 2001, percussion, graduated from Middle Tennessee State University with degrees in psychology, special education and music.
· David Clem, euphonium, 2001, is currently a student at Ball State University studying music education.
· Timothy Weisman, 2001, piano, attends University of Evansville as a bachelors degree candidate in organ performance.
· Wade Baker, 2002, trumpet, attends the University of Indianapolis majoring in Jazz Studies.
· Allison Gough, 2002, flute, is a student at the University of Kentucky.
· Judy Natasha, 2003, clarinet, is currently a student at the University of Evansville studying music education.
· Ashley Pancake, 2002, flute, is attending Butler University to become a physicians assistant.
· Jennifer Eck, 2003, flute, is currently a student at Indiana State University studying music education.
· Susan Caraway, 2003, clarinet, attends Murray State University studying toward a bachelor of music with music education instrumental emphasis.
· Brooke Kieffner, 2003, attends Murray State University to pursue a degree in secondary chemistry education with a minor in music.
· Joe Bohnert, 2003, trumpet, attends Indiana University majoring in music education.
· Ross Sermersheim, 2004, saxophone, attends Indiana University Southeast majoring in music education.
· Erica LaMarche, 2004, percussion, attends Murray State University studying music education.
· Molly Bohnert, 2004, flute, is attending Purdue University and plays in the Purdue Band.
· Allison Neideffer, 2004, flute, attends the University of Southern Indiana majoring in elementary education.
· Carrie Birge, 2004, flute, attends DePauw University and plays in the flute choir.
· Meaghan Klem, 2004, flute, is a student at Indiana University.
· Beth Buechler, 2004, French horn, attends the University of Evansville.
Other musicians performing during the concert are Kathy Guillaume, flute, Sharilyn Spicknall, piano, Amanda Nelson, flute, Matthew Altizer, saxophone, and Glenn Weil, trombone, in addition to band directors Coller, Keeley and Goodhue.
Musical selections for the evening will include a wide range of styles from Baroque classic to contemporary jazz and will be performed as instrumental solos and small ensembles. An eclectic mix of music, combined with the talents of Jaspers own, promises a memorable evening.
